It was fireworks in Parliament on Thursday, September 22 as the Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka (Minister of Regional Development) decided to fire away at individuals from the previous government and present…

We will begin our account of his speech with his line “…The speech would be hurtful to those who took bribes, extorted funds and those who committed such acts. They scream and behave like animals.”

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka went on to note that the persons who engaged in fraud are making visits to the courts with some being handcuffed. “Siblings of some are in prison. Relatives of some are also in prison. Even the leader is in prison…” he added

Interrupting him, the UPFA MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara alleged that FM Fonseka is “using the name Rajapaksa” and pointing the finger towards Mahinda Rajapaksa. The MP went on to say that FM Fonseka “has the right to make general allegations without mentioning any names …”

In his response however, the Field Marshal continued. He stated that the head of the Rajapaksa family has “managed to engage in very secretive, corrupt transaction

“Though his connections to these corrupt acts have not been revealed as yet, he is definitely behind them. Was he asleep when his wife, children, siblings, close associates, his staff members and these henchmen were looting money in millions and committing murder and misusing funds?…” questioned FM Fonseka.

At that moment there was another interruption, though it was only a voice in the background, the question was clear….

“… Who killed Lasantha ? …”

The immediate response by the Minister of Regional Development? “.. Who else other than Gotabaya Rajapaksa. It was Gotabaya who killed him. That is certain.”

FM Fonseka also revealed to the Parliament that Gotabaya Rajapaksa did nothing after taking Rs. 4500 Million  from the “Api Wenuwen Api” fund. The Minister also alleged that Gotabaya Rajapaksa had “fraudulently used” Rs. 91 Million from the UDA and the Sri Lanka Navy to build tombs for his parents.

His allegations also included Gotabaya Rajapaksa collaborating with Avant Garde and misusing Rs. 1.11 Trillion.

The Field Marshal then turned to the present government and said that there is a person who dealt with Avant Garde there as well and called that person, who happens to be Wijeydasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Buddha Sasana, a ‘Nattami’ (the person who pulls the cart).

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka also showed a picture taken of the Minister of Buddha Sasana with persons of Avant Garde taken in Sri Lanka.
