Poverty is not a fate, but an injustice.

On Wednesday September 21, under the News 1st Gammadda 100 Days Initiative, a project was launched in Ralapanawa, where we learnt that we are lending a hand for a generation to take a step into the future.

Over the years, a vehicle park used to accommodate motorcycles was converted to a place of learning.

When it pours, the smudges on the books of these children leaves a mark that cannot be erased. When its a sunny day, these children only feel humidity.

Yet, this is one of the three schools in an area known for vast irrigation tanks and is also the birth place of many citizens who were recognised internationally.

Mahinda Ralapanawa , a veteran in the legal profession, who did his post-graduate study in development at University of Cambridge is one example.

Neglected by authorities, the Ralapanawa Primary School today saw the launch of a new building that would cater to the educational needs of students.

We commenced this project, together with the people,  for the happiness of these children – thereby bringing more joy to the Ralapanawa village.

This project, aimed at creating youth leaders from the village level , was launched with the financial support of persons with big hearts.

The locals joined with the tree-planting ceremony in line with the project, taking up the responsibility of maintaining and protecting the plants.

In addition, two other projects were also launched today under the Gammadda 100 Days programme.

Locals in a village known as Samanalagama in Bandaranaikapura , Hatton have been facing a drinking water issue for many years, simply because of the neglect of authorities.

A new water project was launched today, aimed at halting the hardship that these people have endured down the years.

Another water project was given life at the Thelbedda Tamil Vidyalaya in Badulla today. The Gammadda 100-Days Initiative will continue to bring joy to souls who are in sorrow.
