President Maithripala Sirisena will fly to the United States of America on Sunday to address the 71st United Nations General Assembly.
The United Nations General Assembly will be held from Monday the September 19 – 26. President Maithripala Sirisena will lead the Sri Lankan delegation to the General Assembly.
Incidentally , this will be the second time that President Maithripala Sirisena will address the UNGA, after being elected to office.
The 71st United Nations General Assembly is important for three separate reasons.
One is that the UN is preparing for high-level meetings on refugees and migrants, while this will also be the final occasion on which US President Barack Obama will address the UNGA.
In addition, out-going UU Chief Ban Ki-moon will also made his final address to member states at this United Nations General Assembly.
