A three-wheeler met with an accident at around 08:30 on Tuesday morning in close proximity to the entrance to the Expressway in Akuressa, Matara.

A woman and her grandchild who were present in the three-wheeler at the time of the accident as well as the driver of the three wheeler were rushed to the Matara Hospital with injuries.

The injured woman has been on her way to drop the child to a pre- school. The driver of the bus has been arrested in connection to the accident.

Meanwhile, a woman died after a motorcycle crashed into a lorry at the 4th Mile Post on the Mankulam – Mallavi Road. The woman riding the motorcycle had been taking her child to school when she crashed into a lorry that was parked.

The 36-year-old woman died while her 13-year-old child was admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital.

Two people died when a van met with an accident in Kelimune, Kurunegala. The van plying from Wariyapola to Kurunegala had knocked down a 65-year-old woman and crashed on to a nearby tree.

The woman died on the spot, while a 70-year-old man who was in the van succumbed thereafter.

Our correspondent said that the driver of the van was admitted to the Wariyapola Regional Hospital.

A Sri Lanka Transport Board bus plying from Trincomalee to Jaffna veered off the road at around 05 a.m on Tuesday in the Kinniya area on the Trincomalee – Anuradhapura Main Road. Twelve persons were admitted to the Trincomalee Hospital for treatment.

Three persons were hospitalised in an accident that took place in Thambalagamuwa on the Colombo – Kinniya Main Road. A group on an excursion from Kandy to Trincomalee, had met with this accident. The injured were admitted to the Trincomalee General Hospital.

Two lorries crashed on to each other in close proximity to the Madampe New Town on the Madampe – Kuliyapitiya Road on Tuesday morning. A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after he was run over by one of the trucks.

Our correspondent reported that one of the lorry drivers was admitted to the Chilaw General Hospital. The driver of the other lorry was arrested by police, while both lorries and the motorcycle were taken into custody.

A bowser transporting milk met with an accident in Kithulgala on Tuesday while en route to Kegalle from Hatton. It was reported that the bowser toppled over due to faulty brakes.
