Eid-al-Adha also called the Hajj festival, is the second religious holiday in the Islamic calendar and is celebrated by Muslims all over the world.

The Hajj festival is commemorated by many Muslims with a pilgrimage to Mecca during the Hajj week. It is said that this is the largest gathering of Muslims in the world every year.

Our correspondent in Mecca Saudi Arabia said that over 2.4 million devotes have arrived for the Hajj Festival.

Minister of Muslim Religious Affairs Abdul Haleem said that 2240 Sri Lankans have joined this years Hajj celebrations in Mecca.

Issuing a communique President Maithripala Sirisena notes that the the festival of Hajj is the ultimate display of devotion to god while Muslim Devotees around the world extend the bounds of Peace and brotherhood in accordance to the teachings of the Holy Quran and Prophet Mohamed.
