An amnesty period of three months has been announced for individuals who are illegally residing Qatar, after having travelled to the country for employment.
The Foreign Employment Bureau said that the amnesty period will begin from December 1, 2016. During the amnesty period, individuals who are residing in Qatar even after their visa had expired, will be allowed to return to their motherland.
The Internal Affairs Ministry of Qatar said that these individuals will not be subject to fines and legal punishment. There are about 146,000 Sri Lankan nationals employed in Qatar at present
