Promotional activities of the Surya Bala Sangramaya project aimed at encouraging the use of solar energy in households commenced on Friday.
One million houses will be introduced to solar energy under this programme.
The project is a joint venture of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy , The Ceylon Electricity Board , Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority and several other organisation.
The commencement took place from Trincomalee, Ampara, Jaffna and Hambantota on Friday morning.
After the motorcades reach Colombo, the inauguration of this national project will take place at the BMICH on September 6 under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
