Police disperse marching university students; set up roadblocks in Colpetty

Police took measures to disperse a protest staged by the Inter University Students’ Federation on Wednesday.

The protest march which was staged against the Private Medical College in Malabe, commenced close to the Sri Jayawardenepura University. The protesters marched along High Level Road and entered Galle Road via Thummulla,  in an attempt to approach Temple Trees.

During the march, the police had informed the protesting students in Nugegoda that a court order has been issued preventing them from approaching the high security zone.

111Police set up road blocks at the Colpetty Junction in another attempt to prevent the students from approaching Temple Trees. Thereafter, the police took measures to disperse the students.

 

Meanwhile, members of the student’s action committee of the Malabe Private Medical college gathered at the Gangaramaya temple on Wednesday.

Engaging in religious observances they requested for their right to education be safeguarded.The students committee went on to note, that they wish the anger and jealously of those who protest against the Malabe Private Medical college fade away.
