The News1st Gammedda 10- Days Initiative is a practical programme that helps uplift the lives of the people in rural Sri Lanka.The fourth project under this initiative was vested with the public today.
The project to supply clean drinking water to the Hambegamuwa area in Thanamalwila, Monaragala began under the Gammedda 100-Days initiative on August 1.. The project began as a result of the attention of President Maithripala Sirisena being drawn towards the water project initiated at the Hambegamuwa secondary school two days ago. Thereby, the Sri Lanka Navy was able to complete the the project that began on August 1 within just twelve days.
The inauguration ceremony saw the participation of the Director General of the Presidential Task force on Prevention of Kidney Disease Asela Iddawela, General Manager of News1st Yasarath Kamalsiri, Director of News Rinaz Mohamed and Thanamalwila Divisional Secretary K.H.A. Kelum Nishantha.
Representing the Sri Lanka Navy Commander S.P. Kurukulasuriya and several other high-ranking officers were present at the event. Under the project, 850 families in the area will receive clean drinking. Villagers presented News1st with a memento at the event.
The foundation stone to provide sanitary facilities to the pre-school students in Issinbassagama in Medawachchiya was laid today under the Gammedda 100-Days Initiative. Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Organisation Ltd. Nedra Weerasinghe and Director at News1st Gayan Sampath were present at the event.
This project is due to be vested with the public within two weeks.
