The Criminal Investigation Department has decided to provide assistance in putting an end to extortion in private buses.

Chairman of the National Transport Commission M.P. Hemachandra stated that a request in this regard was submitted to the Inspector General of Police. He also said that he discussed the future course of action to prevent extortion.

The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association previously stated that over Rs.150 million was being extorted daily from private buses.
