The threat of wild elephant attacks is the main fear of many individuals living in rural Sri Lanka. However, locals of the Pathalayagama area in Hambantota are now fear free, as the Gammedda team on Wednesday, fulfilled their wishes by providing them with a much needed elephant fence.
The elephant fence which was constructed as part of the Gammedda 100-day campaign was vested to the public today following religious observances. Members of the News1st team attended the event.
Locals of Pathalayagama who feared for their lives, can now finally sleep in peace knowing that their homes will not be attacked by wild elephants. The look of sheer joy and happiness was evident among the locals of Pathalayagama, who no longer have to be worried by attacks by wild elephants.
