Gammedda 100 : A quick look at ongoing projects

An access road for a village, clean drinking water, an anicut to supply water for the fields, a school building roof in dire need of repairs – thousands of villages facing a plethora of such issues, have received a new lease on life through the Gammedda 100 days programme.

A quick look at the ongoing projects:

*Electric elephant fence – Pathalayagama, Hambantota
Distance: three kilometres
Status – to be completed on August 10,2016

In just two more days the residents of the village of Pathalayagama will receive a solution to the human elephant conflict, in the form of an electric fence.

*Clean drinking water project – Hambegamuwa
Status – Work in progress

The project is being supported by the Sri Lanka Navy on the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena.

*Cheenagahabena Canal renovations – Matara
Status – Work in Progress

The canal which supplied water to 190 acres of paddy fields in the Kathduwa village in Malimbada, Matara is progressing at a rapid pace.

*Clean drinking water project – Boralagama, Weligama
Status – final stage of completion

The villagers of Boraalagama in Weligama, Matara have been suffering to eke out an existence in the absence of the most essential of human needs.

*Clean drinking water project – Paranthan Tamil College, Killinochchi
Status – Work in Progress

*Clean drinking water project – Uththuchenai Mixed Public School, Batticaloa
Status – Work in progress

Numerous projects will commence over the coming days under the News 1st Gammedda 100 days programme, one of the largest outreach and public service programs undertaken in the recent history of the country.
