According to the Railways Department, 250 people have died in train accidents during the course of 2016.
Superintendent of Railway Security, Anura Premaratne, said that majority of the deaths were the result of suicide.
He said that although majority of the accidents occur at railway crossings where traffic lights have been installed, there are several instructions the general public ought to follow to minimize train accidents.
