The central working committee of the SLFP has decided to cancel the party membership of the Puttalam District MP Sanath Nishantha.
Secretary General of the UPFA MP Mahinda Amaraweera said that the reason for this move was the MP denouncing the party and the party leadership on a programme aired on television.
The central working committee of the SLFP convened at the president’s official residence last evening under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Meanwhile, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that at the meeting, it was decided that the Kurunegala district councillors who set fire to the letters calling for election papers be removed from the party and not be allowed to contest the local government elections.
