Three days remain for the 2016 Rio Olympics to get underway.
The Torch of Hope rally which is making its way across the country to muster courage among the Sri Lankan sportsmen and women, reached Ambalangoda on Tuesday, August 02.
The twentieth day of the Torch of Hope rally commenced from Galle on Tuesday morning. The rally commenced Tuesday’s leg after a ceremony which was presided over by the Assistant Secretary of the Galle district Chathuranga Gunasekara and Galle division SSP Chandana Galappaththi.
Sprinter Thamara Saman Deepika carried the Torch of Hope for Tuesday’s leg of the rally, which saw the participation of sportsmen and women from a number of schools in the area including that of the Galle Vidyaloka Vidyalaya.
The Torch of Hope rally was warmly welcomed by the people of Hikkaduwa, as it made its way through the area. Before the rally came to a stop in Ambalangoda, the torch was taken to the Seenigama Devalaya.
As the torch made a stop in Ambalangoda, it was welcomed with a ceremony in line with local traditions. The Torch of Hope rally which is organised by the Capital Maharaja Organisation and News1st, is also supported by the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Education and the National Youth Services Council.
