The reported number of cases of Leptospirosis is said to be rapidly increasing.
The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health says that 2500 Leptospirosis patients have been reported so far this year. Directress of the Epidemiology Unit Dr. Paba Palihawadana said nearly 20 persons have died owing to Leptospirosis during this period.
She further said that those who are involved in jobs associated with mud and water are prone to contract the disease. The Directress went onto say the disease can cause damage to the liver and kidneys.
