Thirty people, including a monk, were arrested on  Wednesday July 27,  for protesting demanding clean drinking water.

The residents of villages in Godakogalla and Liyanagastota engaged in the protest on Wednesday demanding they be provided with clean drinking water from the Ruhunupura Water Supply Project.

The villagers blocked the road in Ambalanthota during the protest, creating a huge traffic congestion. However, instead of getting a solution for their woes, thirty of them got arrested and Friday July 29.

They were produced before the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court. The  Magistrate ordered the suspects be further remanded until August 1.
