At the weekly cabinet media briefing held on Wednesday July 27,  it was revealed that measures are underway to establish an independent commission on mass media.

Co Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Rajitha Senaratne noted that every person is governed by a certain law.How can journalists remain as the only persons who are not governed in this manner, he queried.

He added that they wanted to take actions in this regard but it was the Prime Minister who suggested that this action be taken through a new media commission.

Meanwhile,  Deputy Minister of Mass Media Karu Paranawithana added that they are hoping to establish an independent commission on mass media and there is a need to establish rules and regulations on that.
