The monthly session of the Southern Provincial Council was postponed due to disruptions caused by councillors of the UPFA.
The councillors voiced their opposition over the removal of Provincial Councillor D.V. Upul’s Ministerial portfolio. Twenty councillors of the UPFA wore black arm bands and staged this demonstration opposite the Southern Provincial Council before entering the chambers for the monthly session.
The councillors thereafter entered the building of the provincial council. Before the commencement of the meeting, a group of minister including D.V. Upul conducted a discussion with Chief Minister Shan Wijeyalal. During the meeting, the group of ministers entered the chambers and disrupted activities.
UPFA, Southern Provincial Councillor D.V. Upul noted that an organisation will be created in the business of catching thieves, since there are illegal goods and state property kept in people’s homes.
He added that he was stripped from his post because he stood tall with Mahinda Rajapaksa. Explaining further he noted that they have the majority of the power from the UPFA, but they are unaware about the behaviour of UNP and the JVP.
