Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva said the Katunayake International Airport will be closed for eight hours per day starting from January next year.
He added that flights will not be able to landed on the runaway for over an year as there will be a complete renovation which is done internationally.
He went on to note that it will be closed daily for a period of eight hours. Explaining further he noted that they will be able to strengthen the airport for the next 20 to 30 years and to operate based on international standards.
Furthermore, he noted that starting from January 5, the airport will be closed for a period of three months and they have already informed flight companies to reschedule flights.
