One hundred projects in 100 days – With the people for the people. That is our aim, our goal as we work towards a better, brighter Sri Lanka by the end of that one hundred days…
This is merely one of the objectives of the historic Gammedda 100-day Public Service Initiative that is creating ripples of change across the country.
Close to 100 families living in the Thibbatuwawa village survive without clean drinking water. Their only request – a mere call for help to gain access to clean drinking water.
“.. We live amidst many hardships. We have to travel a long distance to get water. Even if wells are dug, you cannot use that water..” said a resident.
We came across yet another group of people who are undergoing many hardships due to the lack of drinking water.
A woman we spoke to in the area told us that her children cannot go to school the next day as their clothes and shoes cannot be washed. She also said, “I checked for water in three locations all three did not have water..”
The only request made by the residents of Ondachchimadam is to provide them with a building at the public cemetery in the area.
“..When there is a funeral in the village, we do not have a location to place the remains. We appreciate it if a building can be constructed at our cemetery..”
Meanwhile, residents of Villachchiya request for their community centre to be refurbished. The community centre which was constructed in the year 1995 is in a dilapidated state.
