The re-launch of the campaign, Top German Brands in Sri Lanka took place in Colombo on Friday evening.
The event was graced by the German Ambassador to Sri Lanka Jurgen Morhard and Minister Malik Samarawickrama.
The Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama stated that Germany is recognised as being “the best” – whether its in technology, skills development, education, system of education -and in every sphere of life “we can take an example from the Germans”, said the Minister.
He added that after world war II, the whole country was destroyed, but rose up because of the true commitment and the hard work of the people of the country. And this is a good lesson for Sri Lanka, pointed out the minister.
He went on to note that the government is doing its best to change the mindset of the people. But it is being done gradually and even though it will take some time, it will be done.
“We are leaving in four days. It has been a wonderful time. Many highlights”, said the German Ambassador to Sri Lanka,Dr. Jürgen Morhard adding that many things were achieved on the business side, and the increase of Sri Lanka’s presence.
It was all about the people. The people here. The normal people on the road – Tuk Tuk drivers, people in the villages , people in the road shops, he said; thanking the country for its ‘ever kind hospitality’.
Incidentally, this event marks the conclusion of the German Ambassador’s four year tenure in Sri Lanka.
