The 16th edition of the World Export Development Forum will be held in Colombo in October, 2016.
A media briefing was held on Friday to create awareness on the forum.The World Export Development Forum is being jointly organised by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the International Trade Centre.
State Minister of International Trade Sujeewa Senasinghe stated that over the past seven to eight months the government has undertaken many tasks aimed at reducing the debt burden of the country, that stands at over 10bn dollars.
“We have taken measures to halve this debt”, he said
He added that discussions are taking place to reduce the interest rate of the loans that were granted; as well as plans are being made in creating trade zones around the Hambantota port and airport which are currently not making any profits. And countries such as India, Pakistan and China as well as a number of other nations, have come forward to invest in this zone.
