The Department of Prisons says that 50 prisoners have escaped from prison so far this year.

Department of Prisons Media Spokesperson Thushara Upuldeniya said that, among the escapees are those who are connected to serious crimes,  including drug-related offences.

The media spokesperson reiterated that joint investigations with the police are underway to apprehend the escapees.
