The Old Thomians Rugby Football Union (OTRFU) states they strongly disagree and are deeply disappointed by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association’s (SLSRFA) decision to change the venue of the President’s Cup final between Royal College, Colombo and Isipathana College, Colombo which was to be worked off on July 9.

The President of the OTRFU Thariq Munna expressed the view of the union through a letter to the President of the SLSRFA.

OTRFU President Thariq Munna pointed out that a request for a change of venue for the second semi final of the President’s Cup tournament between Royal College, Colombo and S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia was declined by the SLSRFA citing that sponsors would have an issue with the change of venue.

Furthermore, the OTRFU has pointed out the claims of the sponsor having an issue with the change of venue is completely incorrect and misleading as Isipathana College’s request was met with change of venue for the final match.

According to the OTRFU it clearly illustrates the lack of uniformity in the decisions made by the SLSRFA.

Meanwhile, the Warden of S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia recently decided to step down from his position as Vice President of the SLSRFA following the decision by the SLSRFA to change the venue of the President’s Cup final..

In a letter announcing his resignation from the position, the Warden of S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavania called on the SLSRFA to introduce a rule that any match in the knock out tournament from 2017 onwards would be played at a neutral venue.

The Warden of S. Thomas’ College also called on the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association to tender a written apology to S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia for denying their request for a venue change by citing incorrect and/or misleading reasons.
