Two unlikely individuals, who were born and bred in a culture of being harassed by the Police and even incorporated the brutality that they faced within their work, have now called for calm following the attack in Dallas
During a turbulent time of gang violence between the ‘bloods’and the ‘Cribs’ Snoop Dogg and The Game found themselves allying themselves on opposite sides, however in the wake of the recent Dallas shooting, the two rappers have joined forces with a even more unlikely party-the police
The Dallas attack came after police killings in Louisiana and Minnesota triggered protests over police use of force against black suspects and racial disparities in the American criminal justice system.Five police officers were shot dead at a protest decrying police shootings of black men
The lyrics of rap has been riddled with American youth (specially black males) being harrased by the police and has pushed revolutionary propaganda for years
“I was once that angry young man or young civilian so it’s just crazy” said Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr (aka Snoop Dogg)
The violent entanglement between young African-Americans and the police is not a new one but the global community is becoming more an more aware of it through the lens of the internet
“I said it’s not about having anger because I’m still angry, we’re all angry for different reasons, it’s how you channel your anger. And to me as an individual, today I chose to channel my anger positively and this is what the outcome is.” said Jayceon Terrell Taylor (aka The Game)
