Kandy district UNP MP, M. Velu Kumar has decided to step down from the COPE Committee.
He stated that his letter of resignation has been handed over to the speaker of the parliament
“I handed in my letter of resignation from the COPE committee yesterday”, said the UNP parliamentarian who expressed his gratitude for being selected for the COPE committee only a year after his first election in to parliament.
He added that several other opportunities to be a part of various committees discussing the constitution have been given
He further pointed out that due to the nature of the COPE committee, and its fast pace, it was difficult to allocate time and thus the decision to step down and give the position to someone else.
“An individual who is capable of fully dedicating his time for this committee should be appointed to this position”, he said.
