Newly-appointed Governor of the Central bank, Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy received his letter of appointment from the President at the Presidential Secretariat today.
On Saturday, President Maithripala Sirisena announced that Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy would take up the position as the new governor of the Central Bank.
Coomaraswamy, a former student of Royal College, is a graduate of the Cambridge University. He received his doctorate from the University of Sussex.
Dr. Coomaraswamy served at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka from the year 1973 to 1989, where he worked in the Economic Research, Statistics and Bank Supervision Divisions of the Bank.
While Dr. Coomaraswamy served at the Ministry of Finance and Planning from 1981 to 1989, he was also employed by the Commonwealth Secretariat from 1990-2008.
