Several political party representatives have called on the government to make use of the opportunity to rectify the situation that has arisen with regard to the Central Bank.

Leader of JVP, Anura Kumara Dissanayake Ajith Nivard Cabraal’s appointment as the CBSL Governor was the first time a politician was appointed in Sri Lanka. Activity at the Central Bank was one of the reasons the people toppled the government on January 8.

He added that Ranil Wickremesinghe’s best friend Arjuna Mahendran caused an increased interest payment of Rs.66.4 billion in 2015 as a result of his actions. The bidding system was changed for no reason than to enable his son-in-law to reap more profits.

Thereby, the President should not reappoint Arjuna Mahendran as the Governor of the Central Bank but instead he should be punished for the money he stole from the state, alleged the representatives.

He went on to note that even though” he is a rogue” PM Wickremesinghe stands up to defend him and has already appointed him to a committee that has been tasked with studying the impact of Britain’s exit from the European Union.
