President reiterates importance of safeguarding environment at CEA conference

President Maithripala Sirisena notes that the responsibility of preventing any harm being done to the environment lies with the environmental officials. He made these remarks addressing the 17th Annual Conference of the Regional Environment Officers Association of Central Environmental Authority.

The president noted that for the first time, as the Minister of Environment, he utilised the armed forces to protect the environment. During the matter of conserving the environment, everyone including racketeering businessmen, people, organisations, focus on earning.

The Regional Environmental Officers Association also submitted their grievances to the president.

Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), Prof. Lal Mervin Dharmasiri stated that the submission of the project proposal for a sustainable solution to resolve problems with the landfill in Meethotamulla, Kolonnawa, which was devised with the support of a foreign corporation, to His Excellency the President.
