A woman died and four others suffered injuries when a van plying along the Habarana – Trincomalee main road, crashed into a wild elephant in the Galwanguwa area.

Police stated that residents of the Thopur area were injured in the accident which occurred at around 10 p.m. on Sunday. The injured were admitted to the Habarana Hospital. One of the injured, a 47-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries.

While the body of the woman is currently at the Habarana hospital, the four injured victims were transferred to the Dambulla Hospital.
