Tensions flare at Central Provincial Council

A meeting which was held between Minister Rauff Hakeem and several government officials at the Provincial Ministry of Health was the subject in a tense situation which occurred at the Central Provincial Council on Tuesday, June 21.

The session was postponed following the situation. The chairman of the council had adjourned the session later as a majority of the councillors were not in attendance.

Provincial health officials, including the provincial director of health services were summoned to the meeting held on Monday June 20, under the auspices of Minister Rauff Hakeem and Deputy Minister of Health Faiszal Cassim.

“The deputy minister of health from the Central Government and another minister have provided instruction to the officers at a meeting without informing the provincial minister of health. This brought disrepute to the Provincial Council”, said Chairman of the Central Provincial Council  L.D.Nimalasiri,

In addition, the opposition councilors called on the governor of the province today and had informed her of the incident.
