According to the police, statements have been recorded from eight suspects in connection to the kiling of a nine-year -old girl in the village of Kudalunuka in Mahiyanganaya.

However, the Mahiyanganaya Police say that no arrests have been made thus far. The body of the girl was subject to a post mortem examination by the judicial medical officer of the Mahiyanganaya Hospital and was later sent to the analyst for further inspection.

The police said that samples have been collected and will be sent for DNA testing in order to ascertain as to whether the victim was raped before she was murdered.

The body of nine-year-old Malki Sandamili Premasiri, a Grade 4 student at the Kudalunuka Junior School in Rideemaliyedda, Mahiyangana, was discovered at about 5 p.m. on Friday, June 17 on the bank of the Ulhitiya Oya, one and a half kilometres from her home.
