Various views were expressed on the tenure of the CBSL Governor

Deputy Minister of Public Enterprise Development, Eran Wickramaratne stated that it is the president’s decision to extend the tenure of the CBSL governor or not, and they are unaware if the governor has requested for a service extension.

He added that the president needs to consider two facts. Initially the main responsibility of the bank which is to implementing the monetary policy, and evaluate the performance since he is the Chairman of the Monetary Board. Secondly, as the governor of the CBSL whether he managed the institution in a successful manner.

UPFA MP, Dinesh Gunawardene stated that they wrote a letter to the president as the joint opposition and requested him not to reappoint the person who breached the trust of CBSL and muddled up activities.

He added that the governor must be sent home to stop all the drama of continuouslyy minting money because the dignity of the CBSL has to protected.

Explaining further, he noted that in order to keep the good name of CBSL he should vacate his position in a respectful manner even after so many charges are filed against him.
