News 1st will be knocking on your door once again from tomorrow with yet another public service initiative. We launched the “Think Again” campaign, keeping our creed of “Your life, our news” close to our hearts.

As we began the journey, News 1st, on Friday June 17, took steps took to raise awareness on the campaign among religious leaders.

A News 1st team called on the chief prelate of the Malwatu Chapter most venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero and handed an epistle containing the details of the Think Again Campaign. Another News 1st team arrived at the Asgiri Temple and handed an epistle to the registrar of the Asgiri Chapter Venerable Dr. Madagama Dhammananda Thera.

“We extend the blessings on the Chairman of the Sirasa media network and all its staff for carrying out national initiatives such as this”,  Ven. Dr. Medagama Dhammananda, Registrar of the Asgiri Chapter

An epistle containing the details of the Think Again Campaign was also hand delivered to his eminence Dr. Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo.

Hindu religious leaders were informed of the campaign at the Tirungnana Sambandha Aadinam in Nallur, Jaffna while an epistle containing the details of the campaign was handed over to the Chief Priest of the Aadinam Srilari Somasundara Paramacharya

Islamic religious leaders were handed with an epistle containing details of the campaign at the Mohideen Jumma Masjid which is considered the main Jumma mosque in Puttalam

On  August 1, 2015, News 1st embarked on a countrywide “Think” campaign with an objective of educating the people – and requesting them to think before voting in public representatives at the parliamentary election.

After the election, we travelled through villages and towns across the country with the Gammadda door-to-door campaign…

Together with the university of Peradeniya, We compiled a comprehensive report regarding the plethora of issues that you face:

Road systems that have not been refurbished
Locations where bridges need to be put up
Schools and hospitals that were in a dilapidated state
Patients with kidney problems
People who are paying for water and a suffering from the lack of it
People battered by the human elephant conflict

These are just a few issues we encountered during the countrywide journey.

Has the public representative that you chose acted on the problems that you face?

What is the current situation?

Have you received a value for the vote you cast?

The Think Again Campaign, which is another public service initiative by News 1st, has been launched to look into these issues.

One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors – Plato
