Cabinet approval has been granted for the signing of an agreement with Ukraine on the exchange of criminals.
Cabinet Spokesperson,Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka pointed out that the Memorandum of Understanding between Sri Lanka and Ukraine grants the opportunity to request the government of Ukraine to deport those who engaged in illegal activities and sought protection in Ukraine, and the cabinet approved the proposal put forward by President Maithripala Sirisena in the capacity of the Minister of Defence.
He added that it is the policy of the present government to increase female representation in the political process by at least 25 percent. He stated that all political parties and independent groups should ensure that a minimum of 30 percent of the candidates they field should be female.
He further noted that cabinet granted approval to make the necessary amendments to the Provincial Councils Act and debate it before parliament.
The Co- Cabinet Spokesperson also commented on the government’s plans to present the Right to Information Act in Parliament stating that the ministry has made all preparations to present the the right to information act in Parliament on June 23 .
He further pointed out that an institute called the Centre for Law has certified the draft bill on the Right to Information Act formulated as the seventh best Right to Information Bill in the world.
