The National Council for Road Safety has decided to use CCTV footage in order to enforce stricter laws and take legal action against motorists who violate road rules.

Chairperson of the Council, Dr Sisira Kodagoda stated that the police will file legal action against such motorists using the footage. However, the chairperson added that the various shortcomings of the law, leave room for the courts to grant sentences unfairly.

Therefore, he observed that the law would be amended so as to allow CCTV footage to be an official aid when taking legal action against motorists.
