Various views were expressed on the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Arjuna Mahendran during media briefings held on Friday.
UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena charged that the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka is not being held accountable to parliament and is not heeding the advice of the Auditor General and the credibility of the place where money is minted is lost because of the massive theft that took place at the Central Bank in broad-daylight. He said that is why foreigners are moving away from the government treasury bills.
“The Finance Minister and the President are responsible for the fraud and corruption at the Central Bank which lacks transparency”, said MP Gunawaradena/
Minister of Petroleum and Petroleum Gas, Chandima Weerakkody noted that if it is clear that the actions of the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka is illegal and is against the norms of the country, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party notes that taking a decision on the Central Bank Governor will determine the longevity of the government, president and the prime minister
Minister of University Education,Mohan Lal Grero noted that even if this is not proven, this will be a point of discussion in the country, even if they don’t understand the matter.
“I believe that, if he was an intelligent and decent person, he would have resigned already “said Minister Grero
State Minister of Finance,Lakshman Yapa Abeywardane stated that no matter how high the position is, if the people don’t accept you and if the people call for your removal. then there is no point at all – and from the Cabinet Minister to the grassroots levels in society – everyone is calling for the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to step down and that it is good for the country
“In such a backdrop, is such a position and designation worth it ?”questioned the State Minsiter/
