Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya convened a media briefing on Tuesday. The minister stated that special programs have been initiated to help those affected by the recent inclement weather
He added that the CEB will take immediate steps to help the affected people byrestoring electricity lines as well as meters. Meanwhile, trade unions have come forward voluntarily to help repair damages caused to the internal wiring of houses.
He also pointed out that a six-month grace period will be granted to electricity consumers who suffered from the inclement weather to pay off their electricity bills for the month of May and June. The minister stated that the bill will be wiped clean for houses that were completely destroyed, and if there were past payments that had to be made they too will be nullified.
“We will also be taking steps to assist and provide relief to those who were affected by the Salawa Army Camp fire”, said the Minister of Power.
