The inauguration of the National Nutrition Month was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo, under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.

A group including Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne attended the inauguration of the 2016 National Nutrition Month.President Sirisena was the Chief Guest at the event.

This year’s National Nutritional Month centres around consuming healthy portions of food. Several organisations including the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, UNICEF and the World Food Programme, were represented at this event.

Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Rajitha Senaratne stated that ordinary people cannot get a health checkup since there is no system in place to visit hospitals beforehand to get themselves checked.

He added that as a result of this situation health clinic centres will be established at all 482 MOH offices with the exception of MRI and CT scans all other services will be provided such as ECGs, blood tests, X-Rays.

Explaining further, he added that non communicable diseases can be reduced by 10% if it is implemented by 2025.
