National Sustainable Development Engagement Platform launched today

The National Sustainable Development Engagement Platform was launched in Colombo today. Representatives from United Nations, Private Sector, Youth Representatives and Politicians were present at the Launch.

The inaugural Transformation Dialogue was also held at the event.

Deputy Minister of Public Enterprise Development,Eran Wickramaratne called on the evaluation of the government stating that in the past GDP increase and decrease of inflation rates were considered and people advertised these indicators but now the questions have to focus on what it means to live in a better way and this should include stopping social harassment of women on the streets and also public transport.

On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.

Attention was drawn towards achieving these goals also known as SDG’s at the event.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs,Dr. Harsha De Silva noted that things are evolving so much that countries are attempting in various different ways to make their conceptual frame work and their religion, their thinking, and their culture to become happy.
