A sum on Rs. 18 milion has been allocated by the Cabinet for the removal of garbage in flood affected areas.
The Minister of Disasater Management Anura Priyadarshana Yapa addressed a media briefing at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party headquarters today (May 31).
“We will provide insurance claims to those whose houses were destroyed in the floods. We are also working on providing these persons with temporary camps or some kind of shelter until their homes are reconstructed.”- Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Minister of Disaster Management
Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that the Cabinet has also granted approval for another paper tabled by him for a sum of Rs. 141 million for the development / cleaning up of the canals in the lowlands of the Kelani River basin in the Kolonnawa area.
“we came to an agreement with an Italian company attached to the Italian Government in May to construct 10 river basins for drought and flood management at a cost of $13 million (USD) .” – Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa, Minister of Irrigation & Water Resources Management
