The opening ceremony for the International Optimist Dinghy Association Asian and Oceanian Championship 2016 took place in the coast of Trincomalee today.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Navy Commanding Officer of the Eastern Province Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah.

Organized by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka, the Championship will see around 120 competitors under the age of 15 from 16   countries battle against each other.

Competitiros were seen having their final training session ahead of the games tomorrow.

International Level Optimist competitors are also attending the Championships.

The Championship is sponsored by Sports 1st.
