The water levels of the Island’s rivers including the Kelani river have increased by a slight margin. – says The Disaster Management Center
The Kelani river’s spill level stands at 5 ft and the level of water measured at the Naagalagamweediya water gauge stood at 3.35 feet.
According to DMC’s Deputy Director Pradeep Kodippili ,the water levels of the Aththanugal Oya and Ginganga are also on the rise.
Meanwhile the MET Department says that the highest rainfall (103mm) during the past 21 hours was recorded from Colombo. The rainfall inundated multiple areas in the city, including Armour Street, Gothami road, Wellampitiya and Thunmulla.
Furthermore, Our News 1st correspondents state that heavy rains (up-to 54mm) fell in the Galle district last night (May 27).
While the normal water level of the Gin river is 1.6 meters, the current water level is at 3.3 meters.
Reports also say the Welipenna exit of the Southern Expressway is currently inundated.
