Devotees continue to arrive from far and wide to pay homage to the sacred relics that are placed in a special enclosure at the Sirasa – John Keells Vesak Zone., organised for the sixth time, the Vesak Zone centres around the head office of the MTV / MBC Networks located at Braybrooke Street , Colombo 02.
The Sirasa – John Keels Vesak Zone was declared open after President Maithripala Sirisena paid homage to the sacred Sarvanna Relics and the relics of the Maharahath Theros. Thereafter, the President paid homage to the sacred Agrashawaka relics of the arahants Sariputta and Moggallana.
The sacred Sarvanna relics and the relics of the Maha Rahath Theros were moved to the Sirasa Vesak Zone this morning from the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya.
The sacred Agrashawaka relics of the arahants Sariputta and Moggallana which were brought to the Sirasa Vesak Zone from the Kataragama Kirivehera after travelling for four days and set off from the Kalutara Bodhi this morning and made its way to the Vesak Zone.
Heads and senior officers of The Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited and John Keells, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy and the Chief of Defence Staff were present for the occasion.
The Sri Lanka Navy joined hands with the Vesak Zone and are contributing with Vesak lanterns and a cultural procession. The pandol at the Sirasa – John Keells Vesak Zone was declared open this evening and features the Thakka Jathaka Story.
