The Met Department says that the atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka has intensified into a low pressure area and has established in the Southeast of Sri Lanka.
They added that the weather would affect the country and surrounding areas as it would gradually develop into a depression. Thus, cloudy skies, thunder showers and windy conditions are expected to continue over the Sri Lanka and surrounding sea areas.
The Met Dept. also forecasts very heavy falls (of around 150 mm) as there will be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, The National Building Research Organisation has warned the general public to remain vigilant of the threat of landslides and rock falls owing to the heavy rainfall being experienced.
However, last evening the Research and Risk Management Division head of the NBRO, R.M.S Bandara said that despite the heavy rainfall being experienced, there is no situation to issue a landslide warning.
