The Regional Training Workshop on Advanced Paediatric Life Support was held on Friday.
Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne participated in the session which was jointly organised by The Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians, and UNICEF Sri Lanka.
Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine,Dr. Rajitha Senaratne stated that close to 70% of deaths among children occur before their first birthday, and given such vulnerability of newborns, it is clear that quality health interventions are required to ensure survival beyond the 1st 28 days of their lives.
He added that as such ,the present training programme dealing with advanced new born life support training that focuses on providing essential knowledge and skills in resuscitation of newborns and advanced pediatric care, addresses an urgent need in pediatrics in our country and such care is crucial to ensure a new born quality survival.
