Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris ordered that the initial autopsy on the death of late Rugger Player Wasim Thajudeen be probed.

The Additional Magistrate also ordered the Registrar of the Sri Lanka Medical Council to conduct a disciplinary inquiry on the doctors involved.

The Former Crimes OIC of the Narahenpita Police, Sumith Dhammika Perera who was arrested for concealing evidence pertaining to Thajudeen’s death was further remanded until May 26.

The attorney appearing on behalf of the suspected police officer informed court that his client had performed the act as per the orders of the senior officers. He thereby requested that his client be granted bail.

However, the senior state’s counsel appearing on behalf of the Attorney General said that granting bail to the police officer at a time when the investigations are yet to conclude, could hinder the process of the investigation.

He also added that bail should be denied to the suspect as senior officers had intervened in the matter and are attempting the steer the investigations onto a separate direction.
