Speaking in Matara on Sunday May 8, State Minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene said that governments cannot be formed in sudden urgency, by misleading the public.

The minister noted that only those who left the party and its colours can cause the split – not the people. He added that what they wanted to do was to prevent a split among the people and show that the people are in one place, adding that it was shown in Galle.

Minister Abeywardene also said

Basil Rajapaksa says that the rally in Galle was successful. That is the reality. So, we are at a firm stance today. And come the next two to three months, this stance will get only get stronger. Some question as to why the president cannot form a government. Well, governments cannot be formed just like that. A government can only be formed after the party is strengthened.”

State Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene expressed these views while attending a meeting between rural leaders of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in the Matara District.
