The fifth village under the Uda Gammana programme was vested with the public by Minister Sajith Premadasa on Saturday.
Twenty five (25) houses were constructed on a 289 perch land, under the first phase of the programme. These houses were presented to the sub-families from the Navagampua village in Ampara, who were the first recipients of the 100,000 houses project of the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa.
Three hundred (300) low-income families in the Ampara District were presented with loans to renovate their houses, while aid was presented for the construction of 200 more houses. In addition, 100 youth were recruited for training in the construction sector.
Minister of Housing and Construction,Sajith Premadasa stated that following the war, the war-heroes were used to place sand bags opposite the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and Galle Face Green so that the princes’ can go on races.
He added that the previous government failed to provide houses to the war heroes through the Housing Development Authority.
He noted that the warheroes will be given housing aid on a low interest rate from the Housing Development Authority for the construction of their houses.
